Yes, it’s official. But that’s not why we’re especially excited for LGBT Pride Month. Gay Atlanta hits June running this year with enough Stonewall commemorations and other celebrations to last you until the Atlanta Pride festival in October.
On Monday, the president decreed to all the land that June is Pride in the U.S. of A. It’s nice to get the recognition again this year. Put it in your pipe and smoke it while you enjoy big doings that you can actually sink your teeth into during official Atlanta Pride Stonewall Month and other totally unofficial events.
We know. You have Pride all year. We can relate, but the Stonewall Riots anniversary is worth cranking up the volume. Atlanta Pride’s full Stonewall Month roster includes meals, workshops and discussions aplenty. But it also includes some of gay Atlanta’s biggest annual spectaculars like the East Point Possums show (top photo).

Joining Hearts Summer Soiree
Hot models in men’s summer fashions for one of gay Atlanta’s best-loved charities on June 4 at Bloomingdale’s Lenox Square. All that’s left to say about Summer Soiree is there are DJ beats and adult refreshments while you shop, and 10% of your purchase goes directly to Joining Hearts.
Premiere Party
CHRIS Kids benefits from this annual white-attire cocktail social on June 7 at Mason Murer Fine Art. Premiere Party raises funds for gay-inclusive programs that benefit underprivileged children and teens who suffer trauma and neglect. DJ Vicki Powell, munchies, drinks and a silent auction. '90s Pride Prom
Join your favorite East Atlanta Village queens on June 7 at Mary's for a night of ‘90s Pride Prom realness and support Atlanta Pride with your tips to the performers.
'Southern Baptist Sissies' with Del Shores
The “Sordid Lives” playwright himself introduces the popular film from his other play. This showing of “Southern Baptist Sissies” on June 11 at Plaza Theater benefits AID Atlanta.
East Point Possums Show
An open-air spectacular of amateurs, pros and community leaders in drag and otherwise, the 17th Annual East Point Possums Show on June 14 draws hundreds to downtown East Point for three hours of drag hilarity for charity. Fantasy Girls with Bianca Del Rio
The reigning “RuPaul’s Drag Race” winner hits town to star in this June 17 show with Phoenix and other local queens bringing their best at Jungle. Stop rolling your eyes, and be part of it.
'To Be Takei'
Pride and Out on Film join forces to bring you the film festival darling by out actor and activist George “Mr. Sulu” Takei. The “To Be Takei” bio screening on June 18 at the Rush Center takes you from California encampment as a Japanese American child during WWII through Star Trek, his same-sex marriage and a second career as “Uncle George” to hundreds of thousands of social media fans. Atlanta Cotillion’s Cirque de Nuit En Rouge
The AID Atlanta benefactors of Cotillion switched up their original formula of drag debutantes for the better. Now show up to the Delta Hanger Museum on June 21 in creative black tie or not, avant garde or not, drag or not attire and have a good time for the cause. This year, Cirque de Nuit EN Rouge includes DJ David Knapp, Prince Poppycock and dance crew Dragon House.
