|Jim David - Meeting People|
The economy sucks. Your Halloween costume might suck. And you’re suffering from post-Atlanta Pride withdrawal. What to do? Laugh. A lot. And do it on us twice on Saturday and again on Sunday. Here’s how.
Gay comedian Jim David is in Atlanta this weekend, drawing on his Southern roots – he’s from grungy gay haven Asheville, N.C., despite his now New York sensibilities – to make you laugh during his shows at Laughing Skull Lounge in Midtown.
And making you laugh is something he knows how to do. His shtick has made its way to Comedy Central, Logo, the Advocate and more tours than you really care to read about. But if you need more, here it is:
A headliner across the world, the “Mouth Of The South” can be heard on his CDs, “Eat Here and Get Gas” (2000) and “Live from Jimville” (2003). He is three-time winner of the MAC (Manhattan Assn. of Clubs & Cabarets) Award for Outstanding Comedian and the Backstage Magazine Bistro Award for Outstanding NY Comedian. He has appeared on Broadway, Off-Broadway, in films, and his one-man comedy “South Pathetic,” a play about the worst community theater in the South, was presented at the Williamstown Theatre Festival, NYC’S Revelation Theater, and in August 2009 at San Francisco’s New Conservatory Theatre.
He performed in 23 cities across Canada on the Just for Laughs Comedy Tour, and has performed at the Montreal Comedy Festival, The TBS Las Vegas Comedy Festival, as well as other worldwide comedy festivals.
He was in residence at the University of the South as a Tennessee Williams Fellow in writing and performance. He produces and hosts Comedy Cares, the only standup comedy benefit for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, which has featured Joy Behar, Darrell Hammond, Cory Kahaney, John Pinette, Colin Quinn, Bob Smith, Kate Clinton and Julie Halston.
Now that we’ve whet your appetite, here’s how to see David perform – for free, thanks to Laughing Skull and Project Q Atlanta. We’re nice like that. Fill out the form below and we’ll pick from the entrants for a pair of tickets to each of his two shows on Saturday and the one on Sunday.
But hurry. We’ll pick winners on Saturday so we can shoot you an email to confirm you’ll go see him. Then have a laugh on us.
