Gay country singer Ty Herndon will headline the Atlanta Pride festival in October, joining a list of entertainers that also includes recording artist Rita Ora, R&B group the Pointer Sisters and Atlanta-based hip hop group Arrested Development.
Atlanta Pride announced the full line-up of entertainment for the Oct. 14-15 festival on Thursday.
“Because of the support we receive, we are able to offer a high quality, diverse line-up," Jamie Fergerson, Atlanta Pride executive director, said in a prepared statement. "From Grammy-winning artists, to current pop chart toppers and country greats – we’ve got something for everyone in our entertainment line-up."
Herndon, who came out in 2014, has been topping Billboard since his debut on the charts in 1995. He launched a career resurgence in 2014 that included a well-received appearance (watch below) at the HRC Houston 18th Annual Gala during an unofficial coming out tour in 2015.
Hendon performs on Sunday, Oct. 15. Arrested Development, which formed in Atlanta in 1988, performs on Saturday just head of Ora and the Pointer Sisters.
Atlanta Pride also said that it's expanding entertainment offerings to include a third stage – the Nissan Celebrate Equality Stage, which will be on the Lake Clara Meer dock. In past years, the festival has offered a main stage near 10th Street and a second stage near the oval.
“We are thrilled to be able to offer a third stage to festival goers this year, and we are especially proud to be able to expand our line-up and provide great entertainment across all three of our stages," Fergerson said.
"We have so much talent in our community and in our allies – to have the opportunity to feature these performers and showcase their support, is especially exciting for the APC," Fergerson added.
