The annual event, which pairs the celebs and their pets with original fashions by the school’s Urban Couture students, is a fundraiser for Pets Are Loving Support. PALS, of course, is the group that started with providing care and support to the pets of HIV-positive people and later expanded its mission to include anyone with a critical illness, the disabled and elderly.
Organizers said the event raised $2,208 for PALS. Local celebrities taking part included Monica Pearson from WSB-TV, Holly Firfer of 11 Alive’s “Atlanta & Company,” Rob Marciano of CNN, Tonya Ellerby of CliqueAtlanta.com, Liz Lapidus of Liz Lapidus PR, Ms. Georgia USA 2009 Kimberly Gittings, model Jay McCracken and drag personalities Bubba D. Licious and Alexandria Martin.
Of the all of the models, Pearson seemed to have the best handle on her pup, Chief, who walked in tandem with the popular diva and listened intently to any commands. Licious’ dog Duchess, a spotted Great Dane, was also well behaved. Marciano’s borrowed dog, Hank, showed a little anxiety and at one point stopped and sat, only to have CNN’s weather hunk pick him to finish his runway walk.
The student designers, all seniors under the direction of Vincent Martinez, included Vouge Lee-McWilliams, Bree Gray-Jordan, Samiah Blake, Sarah Bufkin, Shekinah Crowley, Perri Campis, Sarah Lawrence, Daryl Wright, JoDeanah Noble, Taylor Fulton, Dane White and Tawnie Mason.
The students were treated to an impromptu visit from Mychael Knight, an Atlanta resident and season three finalist from Bravo’s “Project Runway,” who offered a friendly critique to Fiffer, who also doubled as hostess.
