Cardinal to Ricky Martin: Stop promoting homosexuality to young people. The out Puerto Rican singer and gay dad (top photo) got a loud-and-clear message from Cardinal Luis Aponte Martinez of his native city San Juan: “Please, for the sake of children, for whom I imagine [you] want the best, try to set an example to our young people of the great values we all share, besides sex.”

Far right declares war on the word “gay.” Under the assumption that the word lets the “liberal homosexual agenda” define the fight for equal rights, Christian conservatives suggest changing the semantics of the discussion by replacing “gay” with the following possibilities: “same-sex attraction,” “same-sex intercourse,” “sodomy” or “unnatural vice.”

image Kobe Bryant caught on video using gay slur. Hit with a technical foul during a Tuesday night game, the Lakers star (second photo) was caught by TNT cameras apparently mouthing the words “fucking faggot” at the referee. A fan quickly uploaded the video evidence, which went viral on the internet within hours. The Human Rights Campaign is demanding an apology. UPDATE: NBA slaps Bryant with $100,000 fine for the slur. He made $48 million last year.

UNC Chancellor: Campus hate crime report “false.” Freshman Quinn Matney claimed to have been branded with a super-hot object by an unknown assailant on the Chapel Hill campus. An investigation into the alleged incident now shows that Matney lied and that the report was a hoax, school officials said Tuesday.

Gay dads lose Louisiana birth certificate battle. The 5th Circuit Court overturned a lower court ruling that allowed both fathers’ names on the birth certificate of a Louisiana-born child. In a 9-5 vote, the court held that Louisiana’s insistence that only one father’s name be on the document violates neither the child’s rights nor the pending adoption by both dads.

Illinois lawmakers spar over gay adoption. Heated arguments began Tuesday over a measure that would provide religious institutions exemptions from state law that allows adoptions by same-sex couples. Religiously-led adoption agencies could deny adoptions based on the sexual orientation of the parents if the measure passes.

Vandalism outside gay couple’s home could be hate crime. Cape Girardeau, Mo., police are investigating an incident as a possible hate crime after an anti-gay slur was painted on the door and a wall and damage was found on a window frame and on one of the couple’s vehicles.

RNC website scrubs anti-gay “Hope Isn’t Hiring” page. The Republican National Committee’s page was set up to criticize President Obama for his pro-gay stances and actions while in office. The page went live on the day the president announced his campaign for re-election. It was removed after a week’s worth of complaints by gay groups.

Trevor Project executive director quits. With no explanation as to why, a Tuesday press release from the LGBT teen advocacy group says that Charles Robbins’ resignation was effective last week. The board has named an interim director while it conducts a search to replace Robbins.
