Drag Dad - A Documentary Film (Teaser) from Björn Flóki on Vimeo.

“RuPaul’s Drag Race 2” winner Tyra Sanchez isn’t just getting busted for weed, discussing oral sex with fellow reality star Kandi Burruss and performing for gay dollars since moving to Atlanta. As fans of the show know, she’s also a fulltime dad by day, the subject of a documentary to be filmed in Atlanta that needs your help.

While in New York recently, Ru’s beautiful “other Tyra” – aka James William Ross IV – caught the eye of documentarian and gay dad wannabe Bjorn Floki. The filmmaker had the idea for a documentary about Sanchez contrasting night-and-day double lives ever since her appearance on the show. She let him shoot some film to create a teaser video (above), and now all they need is your helpful donations via a Kickstarter fundraising drive.

“The idea for the film actually came while I was watching ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race,’” Floki says in his Kickstart pitch. “I thought wouldn’t it be interesting to see a cinema verite documentary about James and Tyra and stripping away all the reality TV façade and getting to know the real person.”

A goal of $16,000 on Kickstarter – they’re already well over halfway there – would get Floki and his crew to Atlanta to film Sanchez in and out of drag as well as get to know 6-year-old son Jeremiah.

“In this film, I want to explore the two contrasting lifestyles of James the parent and Tyra the larger than life drag queen sensation,” Floki continues. “What is it like for James to juggle these two lifestyles, and what is it like for Jeremiah to have a dad who works fulltime as a female impersonator?”

You have a week to help before donations close on July 27 at 8:30 p.m. Donors at varying levels get perks, too. Any amount as low as $1 gets you a downloadable version of “Drag Dad” when complete. Rewards at other levels include having Tyra to your party with Floki’s cameras rolling, drag lessons with Tyra, as well as autographed photos and books. Go become a donor and watch Floki’s full pitch.

Sorry. Nude photos aren’t on the table like our last Kickstarter hero. And no word on RuPaul’s other Atlanta “All Stars”making appearances in the film.
