Gay Atlanta bartenders battle over ‘punch’ for AIDS Walk

Mixologists from across gay Atlanta nightlife competed in a friendly Bar Wars on Tuesday to help "Pack the Park" for the upcoming 27th Annual AIDS Walk Atlanta & 5K Run.

Seven bartenders used Jimador Tequila to create their take on "Pack the Park Punch." Attendees at the event – held on the big deck of Cowtippers – used their drink tickets and tips to vote for their favorite. Competitors included Ashley Mitchell from Mary's, Jimmy Cox from Woof's, Chase Phillips from Hideaway, Daniel Paredes from LIPS, Johnny Morrison from Cowtippers, Tiffany Berwyn from Heretic and Twee Nguyn from BJ Roosters.

Nguyn collected the largest combination of drink tickets and tips, winning the inaugural Bar Wars. She gets a prize package and BJ Roosters gets a trophy and bragging rights.

The event was all in fun to help promote the AIDS Walk, which is Oct. 22 in Piedmont Park. Organizers from AID Atlanta are pulling together a day of events to help pack the park for the event, which raises funds for AID Atlanta and other HIV non-profits.

On Tuesday, proceeds from drink tickets sold for the event benefited AIDS Walk.

Gary With Da Tea – aka Gary Hayes from the popular "The Rickey Smiley Morning Show" and its TV spinoff, "Dish Nation – hosted Bar Wars. You might also know him from his "The Real Housewives of Atlanta" riff on "daddy girls."

Hayes and state Rep. Park Cannon, one of four LGBTQ lawmakers in the Georgia House, are ambassadors for the walk this year. Hayes also took part in the 2016 event.
