Let’s see. A shirtless Tom Cruise singing in his own voice, a gay love storyline for Alec Baldwin and Russell Brand, and all in an ’80s musical by award-winning gay “Hairspray” director Adam Shankman. Hmm. “Rock of Ages” is gayer than we thought.
The star-studded flick opening June 15 in Atlanta and across the country also features Catherine Zeta-Jones, Julianne Hough and Mary J. Blige in big production numbers set to classics by Journey, Def Leppard, Pat Benatar, Jefferson Starship and Twisted Sister.
“You have incredibly famous people doing incredibly weird shit. And it’s all through my filter. And they’ve all given over to me, and I feel very grateful that they have,” Shankman tells HitFix.
