If you need another sign that the LGBT movement is indeed moving forward, look no further than gay Georgia’s own Augusta and the smiling faces of its ever-expanding Pride festival and parade.

Partiers hit the Augusta Common on Friday for a dance party, then they hit historic Broad Street on Saturday for the parade before returning to the Common for a big gay festival. Thousands jammed all three events. Entertainment included singer Taylor Dayne and “RuPaul” alumna Latrice Royale.

As our photos below attest, the event has come a long way in a few short years, and that’s not lost on organizers. They took a step back as they basked in their success to post thanks to all involved, especially local residents willing to show up and be proud.

“In 5 years we have gone from threats of boycotts to welcome signs in downtown businesses, all because you believed in us and you believed in yourself. This is your Pride and we hope we have been deserving for your support.”
