The best gay things to do in Atlanta this weekend

One of the biggest gay weekends so far this year brings annual LGBT events, weekly stalwarts, and special guests sure to keep your gay agenda calendar and your dance card completely full.

Friday, April 21

Atlanta Bear Pride (top photo). Three days of parties start tonight with a warm-up party @ Woofs, 7 – 9 p.m., then continue with Bearracuda and DJ Ryan Jones @ Heretic, 10 p.m.,  and wrap with an all-nighter and DJ Scott Anthony @ Xion, 3 a.m.

Sweetwater 420 Festival. Three days of beer and more people watching than you can handle @ Centennial Olympic Park, through Sunday.

New South. The art show that means what it says and hosts a reception to show it off debuts in the gay-owned spaces @ Kai Lin Art, 7 p.m.

Jade Jolie. The RuPaul fave hits town with the cast of Femme Fatale, 11 p.m., but not before the newest drag glamazons are on display during Fresh Face Friday @ Burkhart’s, 9:30 p.m.,

The Other Show. Come to the unique weekly drag cabaret with an eclectic cast and special guests that always pack a surprise @ Jungle, 9 p.m., preceded by a RuPaul’s Drag Race watch party, 8 p.m.

Boys Room. Hang with the cool kids in East Atlanta @ Mary’s, 9 p.m. And for the next several weeks, it’s preceded by the RuPaul’s Drag Race Happy Hour, 6 p.m.

Mr. & Ms. Atlanta Eagle host, and DJ Chris Kind moves your feet @ Atlanta Eagle, 10 p.m.

Glitz & Glam Dinner Theater. Charlie Brown, the undisputed Bitch of the South and her gurlz entertain with dinner and a show amid the fancy theater experience of Atlanta’s premiere drag restaurant and bar. Make Reservations @ Lips Atlanta, 6 p.m., 9 p.m. and the Taboo Show at 11:30 p.m.

Celestial Friday. Celeste Holmes hosts the show “where the stars come out” and puts the grrls on display for your entertainment and your dollars, plus Second Level beats upstairs @ Blake’s, 11 p.m.

Ladies Lounge. Get your lesbian weekend started with a DJ-driven dance party, live performances and scores of women in the new Midtown home of Atlanta lesbian nightlife @ My Sister’s Room, 9 p.m. 

Resident DJs Scott and Mikey take you deep into the night with $5 Fridays @ Xion, 3 a.m. – 7 a.m.

Leather Pride Afterhours really gets cracking when the Eagle closes @ Tokyo Valentino, 3 a.m. – 7 a.m.

 

Saturday, April 22

HRC Atlanta Gala (middle photo). The dinner and auction that brings all the tuxedos to the yard hits its milestone 30th anniversary event with special guests, local awards, and 1,200 of your closest friends @ Atlanta Marriott Marquis, 6 p.m. It’s always a good time.

Rugby 101. Come out, meet the guys, and learn what you need to know to play with the gay Atlanta Bucks Rugby squad. Beginners encouraged @ Walker Park, 11 a.m.

Ready 4 Hope Bear-B-Q. Part of Bear Pride, join this party-happy AIDS Walk team as they raise funds and raise the roof @ Heretic, 1 p.m. – 6p.m.

Flag Football. The gay jocks of National Flag Football League of Atlanta get rough and tumble @ Boulevard Crossing Park, 9:30 a.m. Hang with the guys afterward @ Blake’s 2 p.m.

#Daydrunk. Drink specials put you to bed early or make you the life of tonight’s party @ Mary’s, 2 p.m. – 8 p.m. Do it, and you may not remember what you did during the regularly scheduled shenanigans, 10 p.m.

Hotlanta Squares. The LGBT square dancers “swing, slip & slither into Spring” with a guest caller @ City of Light MCC, 7 p.m.

Early Country, Late Night Dance. Scoot boots, then shake booty @ Heretic, 8 p.m. and 12:30 a.m.

Bear Invasion. Atlanta Bear Pride continues its three days of parties with Bear Invasion and DJ Chris Stutz @ Jungle, 10:30 p.m. Get there early for Fantasy Girls, 9 p.m.

DJ Rob Moore and the Panther LL crew draw a crowd @ Atlanta Eagle, 10 p.m.

Jade Jolie hits town with the cast of Fever, 11 p.m., but not before the newest drag glamazons in Sizzling Starlets @ Burkhart’s, 9:30 p.m.,

Glitz & Glam with Charlie Brown. The self-titled Bitch of the South and her girls entertain with dinner and a show in the theater experience of Atlanta’s drag restaurant and bar. Make reservations @ Lips Atlanta, 6 p.m., 9 p.m. and the Taboo Show at 11:30 p.m. 

GlitterBomb werqs Saturday night with a drag show hosted by Edie Cheezburger, a cast of premiere queens and special guests @ Blake’s, 10 p.m.

Bear Pride All Nighter with DJ Deeanne. Bars close, but this place doesn’t. Never stop shaking your ass @ Xion, 3 a.m. - 7 a.m.

Bear Pride After Hours. Atlanta Bear Pride goes late into the night and early the next morning @ Tokyo Valentino, 2:30 a.m. - 6 .m.

 

Sunday, April 23

Todrick Hall (bottom photo). The YouTube sensation and stage star delivers his ‘Straight Outta Oz’ show @ Atlanta Sympony Hall, 8 p.m. Here’s what he has to say.

Hotlanta Softball. The gay pitchers and catchers continue their season of play on the field and off @ Johnson Park, all day. Join them for bottomless brews during the Talons Extra Inning Beer Bust @ Atlanta Eagle, 4 p.m.

Drag Brunch presents the Sisters of Sequins with Bubba D. Licious at the wheel while you eat @ Lips, 12:30 p.m. Walk-ins welcome. Or sleep in and do Dinner with the Divas, 6:30 p.m.

Sunday Funday. This weekly tradition gets an infusion of St. Patrick's celebration @ Ten, 4 p.m. 

Atlanta Bondage Club. The monthly get-together to do what they do so well @ Manifest4U, 2 p.m.

Midtown Rouge. First it’s High Energy and DJ Bill Berdeaux, 1 p.m., then the legendary Sunday drag show kicks off with an all-star cast including Raquell Lorde @ Blake's, 8:30 p.m.

Atlanta Bear Pride closes with Underwear Night and DJ Stan Jackson @ BJ Roosters, 7 p.m.

Armorettes. Atlanta’s camp drag crazies against HIV do their weekly good in the gayborhood @ Burkhart’s, 7:30 p.m.

Tossed Salad. The magic and madness masterminded by Brigitte Bidet and her left-of-center queens goes in hard @ Burkhart’s, 10:30 p.m.
