The best gay things to do in Atlanta this weekend

The summer keeps sizzling as you break the weekday heat with LGBT events that are even hotter. Social gatherings and nightlife fill the bill nicely for another big gay weekend in Atlanta.

Friday, July 21

Rainbros (top photo). Want inspiration? Bring a friend to this gay men’s mentoring and networking group, this time with a talk by social activist Agnel Poventud @ Out Front Theatre, 7 p.m.

Heathers: The Musical. The camp classic you love live on stage as a musical. Don’t miss it through Aug. 13 at OnStage Atlanta, 8 p.m.

The Other Show. Come to the unique weekly drag cabaret with an eclectic cast and special guests that always pack a surprise @ Jungle, 9 p.m.

Boys Room. Hang with the cool kids in East Atlanta @ Mary’s, 9 p.m. 

Wussy: NSA. Sex- and body-positivity dominates with exhibitionists, voyeurs and whatever look you want to show off @ Heretic, 10 p.m.

Strictly Soul. DJ Ron Pullman and Khiko Venable get the weekend going @ Atlanta Eagle, 10 p.m.

Fresh Face Friday puts the newest drag glamazons on display. Then get your singles ready for premiere queens in Femme Fatale @ Burkhart’s, 9:30 p.m. and 11 p.m.

Glitz & Glam Dinner Theater. Charlie Brown, the undisputed Bitch of the South and her gurlz entertain with dinner and a show amid the fancy theater experience of Atlanta’s premiere drag restaurant and bar. Make Reservations @ Lips Atlanta, 6 p.m., 9 p.m. and the Taboo Show at 11:30 p.m.

Celestial Friday. Celeste Holmes hosts the show “where the stars come out” and puts the grrls on display for your entertainment and your dollars, plus Second Level beats upstairs @ Blake’s, 11 p.m.

Ladies Lounge. Get your lesbian weekend started with a DJ-driven dance party, live performances and scores of women in the new Midtown home of Atlanta lesbian nightlife @ My Sister’s Room, 9 p.m. 

 

Saturday, July 22

Deep South (middle photo). DJ Nark returns to Vicki Powell’s alterna party @ Heretic, 10 p.m.

Impulse: Outside the House. Real talk about emotional health from this AID Atlanta affiliate group for gay men @ Morehouse School of Medicine, 2 p.m.

Wet Demons Margarita Bust. Help support this team going to the Gay Softball World Series by drinking bottomless margs @ Zocalo, 2 p.m.

Reign Beer Bust. What? Yet another Atlanta team going to the GSWS? You betcha. This time, the Reign team keeps pouring you beers until you tell them to stop @ BJ Roosters, 3 p.m.

Backpack in the Park. For the Kid in All of Us presents the 12th annual rendition of the event that collects supplies and donations to help children in need @ Frazer Center, 6:30 p.m.

#Daydrunk. Drink specials put you to bed early or make you the life of tonight’s party @ Mary’s, 2 p.m. – 8 p.m. Do it, and you may not remember what you did during the regularly scheduled shenanigans, 10 p.m.

Serving for Equality. HRC Atlanta hosts this fun doubles tennis tournament for players, and a DJ, food and cocktails for everybody else @ Sharon Lester Tennis Center, 6 p.m.

Idina Menzel. The Broadway Baby that rivals all others hits town on her latest tour. Get ready to swoon @ Fox Theatre, 8 p.m.

Midsummer Splash Bash. DJ Moose kicks Saturday into high gear @ Atlanta Eagle, 10 p.m.

DJ Dance party. Go, queen, go! It’s you and the music @ Jungle, 10:30 p.m. Get there early for Fantasy Girls, 9 p.m.

Sizzling Startlets and Fever. The opening show is followed by the quintessential drag cast working for your dollars @ Burkhart's, 9:30 p.m. and 11 p.m. 

Glitz & Glam with Charlie Brown. The self-titled Bitch of the South and her girls entertain with dinner and a show in the theater experience of Atlanta’s drag restaurant and bar. Make reservations @ Lips Atlanta, 6 p.m., 9 p.m. and the Taboo Show at 11:30 p.m. 

GlitterBomb werqs Saturday night with a drag show hosted by Edie Cheezburger, a cast of premiere queens and special guests @ Blake’s, 10 p.m.

Afterhours really gets cranking when the party moves to Cheshire Bridge Road with DJs Cosmo and Tracy Levine @ Tokyo Valentino, 3 a.m. – 7 a.m.

 

Sunday, July 23

Sunday Funday (bottom photo). The weekly tradition of dudes, DJs and drinks continues, now with an all new, all gay attraction @ Ten, 4 p.m. 

Drag Brunch brings the Sisters of Sequins with Bubba D. Licious at the wheel while you eat @ Lips, 12:30 p.m. Walk-ins welcome. Or sleep in and do Dinner with the Divas, 6:30 p.m.

Sporty Sunday Funday. All the games and matches on the screens and all the guys to watch it with @ Woofs, 12 noon.

Midtown Rouge. First it’s High Energy and DJ Bill Berdeaux, 1 p.m., then the legendary Sunday drag show kicks off with an all-star cast including Raquell Lorde @ Blake's, 8:30 p.m.

Armorettes: 90s Night. Atlanta’s camp drag crazies against HIV do their weekly good in the gayborhood @ Burkhart’s, 7:30 p.m.

Tossed Salad. The magic and madness masterminded by Brigitte Bidet and her left-of-center queens goes in hard @ Burkhart’s, 10:30 p.m.
