The best gay things to do in Atlanta this weekend

With Mother’s Day in the mix and still a weekend of deserved down time to enjoy, LGBT Atlanta throws down event options whether you want to put Mama, gala or holla into your plans.

Friday, May 12

Thriving Children (top photo). Steve Hightower’s annual formal with entertainment, a hair show and a gala dinner raises funds for Lost N Found Youth @ 130 Paces Ferry, 6:30 p.m.

Happy Mother’s Day, Mrs. Warhol. While he was busy being the toast of 1960s New York, gay artist Andy Warhol lived with his mother. Watch the documentary film he made about their life there @ Atlanta Contemporary, 7 p.m.

Summer on the MAAP. Metro Atlanta Association of Professionals meets for happy hour on the patio @ Ten, 6 p.m.

Laughs Trump Hate. Comedy on the theme of Not My President stages to benefit Lost N Found Youth @ Hiughland Inn, 7:30 p.m.

“The Most Fabulous Story Ever Told” Closing Weekend. The classic gay play that puts Adam & Steve in the Garden of Eden gets a staging by the local LGBT company @ Out Front Theatre, 8 p.m. Runs through Sunday, May 14.

The Other Show: Evah’s Birthday. Come to the unique weekly drag cabaret with an eclectic cast and special guests that always pack a surprise @ Jungle, 9 p.m., preceded by a RuPaul’s Drag Race watch party, 8 p.m.

Boys Room. Hang with the cool kids in East Atlanta @ Mary’s, 9 p.m. And for the next several weeks, it’s preceded by the RuPaul’s Drag Race Happy Hour, 6 p.m.

DJ Eric sets the tone @ Atlanta Eagle, 10 p.m.

Fresh Face Friday puts the newest drag glamazons on display. Then get your singles ready for premiere queens in Femme Fatale @ Burkhart’s, 9:30 p.m. and 11 p.m.

Glitz & Glam Dinner Theater. Charlie Brown, the undisputed Bitch of the South and her gurlz entertain with dinner and a show amid the fancy theater experience of Atlanta’s premiere drag restaurant and bar. Make Reservations @ Lips Atlanta, 6 p.m., 9 p.m. and the Taboo Show at 11:30 p.m.

Celestial Friday. Celeste Holmes hosts the show “where the stars come out” and puts the grrls on display for your entertainment and your dollars, plus Second Level beats upstairs @ Blake’s, 11 p.m.

Ladies Lounge. Get your lesbian weekend started with a DJ-driven dance party, live performances and scores of women in the new Midtown home of Atlanta lesbian nightlife @ My Sister’s Room, 9 p.m. 

Resident DJs Scott and Mikey take you deep into the night with $5 Fridays @ Xion, 3 a.m. – 7 a.m.

 

Saturday, May 13

ManShaft: Military Edition (middle photo). DJ Diablo Rojo brings all the men in uniform to the yard @ Heretic, 10 p.m. Last time was bananas.

Purple Dress Run. Atlanta Bucks host their annual bar hop with everyone in purple dresses. Starts at Cowtippers, 11:30 a.m., and winds its way to a Cookout @ Atlanta Eagle, 4 p.m.

Krog Street Tunnel Paint Day. Southern Fried Queer Pride organizers get out their colors and go to town on the famous graffiti underpass to queer things up @ Krog Street Tunnel, 11 a.m. Meet at 87 Estoria.

#Daydrunk. Drink specials put you to bed early or make you the life of tonight’s party @ Mary’s, 2 p.m. – 8 p.m. Do it, and you may not remember what you did during the regularly scheduled shenanigans, 10 p.m.

DJ Alexander lands in Atlanta, and the dancing queens soar @ Jungle, 10:30 p.m. Get there early for Fantasy Girls, 9 p.m.

Southern Bears Bar Night goes down with DJ Mister Richard @ Atlanta Eagle, 10 p.m.

Sizzling Startlets and Fever. The opening show is followed by the quintessential drag cast working for your dollars @ Burkhart's, 9:30 p.m. and 11 p.m. 

Glitz & Glam with Charlie Brown. The self-titled Bitch of the South and her girls entertain with dinner and a show in the theater experience of Atlanta’s drag restaurant and bar. Make reservations @ Lips Atlanta, 6 p.m., 9 p.m. and the Taboo Show at 11:30 p.m. 

GlitterBomb werqs Saturday night with a drag show hosted by Edie Cheezburger, a cast of premiere queens and special guests @ Blake’s, 10 p.m.

DJ Scorpio All Nighter. Bars close, but this place doesn’t. Never stop shaking your ass @ Xion, 3 a.m. – 7 a.m.

 

Sunday, May 14

Call Your Mom (bottom photo). It’s Mother’s Day, in case you forgot. No sorry, we don’t have her number. Isn’t it in your phone somewhere?

Drag Brunch presents the Sisters of Sequins with Bubba D. Licious at the wheel while you eat @ Lips, 12:30 p.m. Walk-ins welcome. Or sleep in and do Dinner with the Divas, 6:30 p.m.

Sporty Sunday Funday. All the games and matches on the screens and all the guys to watch it with @ Woofs, 12 noon.

Glowgobear Sunday Funday. Join DJ Neon the Glowgobear on the deck and on the decks @ Zocalo, 2 p.m.

Sunday Funday. The weekly tradition of dudes, DJs and drinks continues @ Ten, 4 p.m.

Midtown Rouge. First it’s High Energy and DJ Bill Berdeaux, 1 p.m., then the legendary Sunday drag show kicks off with an all-star cast including Raquell Lorde @ Blake's, 8:30 p.m.

Armorettes. Atlanta’s camp drag crazies against HIV do their weekly good in the gayborhood @ Burkhart’s, 7:30 p.m.
