“When Love Takes Over: A Celebration of SGL Couples of Color” explores black LGBT issues by profiling 18 same-sex couples of color. Aaron (top photo) took to Outwrite Bookstore on Tuesday to talk about the work and answer some frank questions from an appreciative audience. The appearance kicked off a promotional book tour for Aaron.
Aaron’s Coupled Up series on his blog, Living Out Loud, inspired the book, which he developed in part during a nearly-long sabbatical from his popular site.
But really, why does someone like Darian that utilizes new media so well go old school with a printed book? Aaron explained his approach in an interview with Project Q Atlanta earlier this year.
“I’m still in love with old school books,” he says. “’When Love Takes Over’ is also available as an ebook, but it was important to me that the reader had a tangible copy to pick up and potentially use as a resource to share with friends and family. My dream is that this coffee table book will find it’s way into the homes of millions of people and serve as a conversation starter around relationships, marriage equality, and homophobia.”
If you missed Aaron on Tuesday, you’ve got another chance: He’s taking part in the Literary Cafe during Atlanta Black Pride on Saturday.
